Iowa Weather Update: Active Stretch of Severe Weather Expected Across the State Through Tuesday

Iowa Weather Forecast

The quiet weather of the last two weeks is coming to an end as we enter a more active pattern in the middle of May. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are forecast from later today into early next week, with severe weather possible each day in at least some areas. There is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of severe thunderstorms in southern Iowa after dark tonight, with large hail and strong wind gusts the primary threats. There is then a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) of severe thunderstorms in central and southern Iowa late Friday through Friday night, and again late Saturday through Saturday night. Additional severe thunderstorm chances become more widespread and potentially more significant on Sunday and Monday, but the details of those threats are not yet as clear. With multiple rounds of thunderstorms in the forecast, heavy rain may be a factor and isolated flash flooding is possible as we head into the weekend and early next week. Stay tuned for further updates, and be sure you have a severe weather plan in place in case warnings are issued for your area!
