NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center has released its December weather outlook, and there’s a lot to like for warmer weather fans.
The outlook, which was issued on November 30th, has a 40 to 50% probability of above-average temperatures in the state of Iowa. Before you go breaking out the shorts, remember what monthly average temperatures are for locations across the state.

Average high: 34.38 degrees
Average low: 18.08 degrees
Average precipitation: 1.29 inches
Waterloo
Average high: 31.39 degrees
Average low: 14.10 degrees
Average precipitation: 1.25 inches
Davenport
Average high: 34.41 degrees
Average low: 20.21 degrees
Average precipitation: 1.44 inches
Council Bluffs
Average high: 36.72 degrees
Average low: 16.96 degrees
Average precipitation: 0.84 inches
Sioux City
Average high: 32.91 degrees
Average low: 16.30 degrees
Average precipitation: 0.83 inches
Fort Dodge
Average high: 31.63 degrees
Average low: 13.97 degrees
Average precipitation: 1.10 inches
The outlook for precipitation in December looks to remain unchanged from normal. But with the above-average temperatures expected, this may make receiving a White Christmas a little more difficult. While this December weather outlook doesn’t mean there won’t be bouts of chilly weather, it just points to overall trends forecasters can identify this far out.
