About ISCN Weather

The Iowa Storm Chasing Network (ISCN) is one of Iowa’s most trusted sources for timely and accurate weather updates. Founded in 2008 by nationally recognized storm chaser Ben McMillan, ISCN was built on a passion for tracking storms and a commitment to public safety. Ben has been featured on The Weather Channel, WeatherNation, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox News, bringing Iowa’s weather to national audiences.

In 2013, Zach Sharpe joined the network, bringing his background in storm chasing, forecasting, and public communication. Zach assumed leadership of ISCN in 2014, expanding its digital reach and strengthening connections with Iowans through Facebook Live, YouTube broadcasts, and the ISCN mobile app.

Today, ISCN is powered by a team of 13 experienced storm chasers, several of whom are FAA Part 107 certified drone pilots, allowing us to provide unique perspectives during severe weather. Our team has covered some of Iowa’s most historic weather events, including the 2020 derecho and the December 15, 2021 tornado outbreak, delivering real-time coverage that reached millions across the state.

Our work has been featured by national networks and we continue to partner with local media outlets like KCRG-TV and KTTC, furthering our mission to provide reliable weather updates. With over 289,000 Facebook followers, hundreds of thousands of app screen views each month, and tens of thousands of monthly website visitors, ISCN has become a trusted household name for weather awareness in Iowa.

At ISCN, our mission goes beyond forecasts. We focus on safety, education, and accessibility, turning complex weather data into clear, easy-to-understand graphics and updates. We draw from trusted sources such as the National Weather Service, NOAA, and the Storm Prediction Center, while also contributing ground reports from our storm chasers across the state.

Whether you are planning your day, monitoring approaching storms, or preparing your family for severe weather, you can count on ISCN for real-time, life-saving information and dependable coverage.
