Accumulating Snow Across Northern Iowa Saturday
A weak winter system will move through Iowa on Saturday, bringing light snow to northern parts of the state and the chance for some freezing drizzle in the south. This won’t be as strong as Wednesday’s storm, but it could still lead to some slick roads Saturday morning.
What to Expect
- Light snow in northern Iowa – Areas north of Highway 20, especially near the Minnesota border, could see 1 to 2 inches of snow.
- A mix of freezing drizzle and snow in central Iowa – From Highway 20 down to Interstate 80, a mix of light snow and freezing drizzle is possible, but little to no accumulation is expected.
- Freezing drizzle in southern Iowa – A thin layer of moisture in the air may cause patchy freezing drizzle late tonight into Saturday morning, which could create some slick spots on untreated roads and bridges.
Timing & Temperatures
- Today (Friday): Cloudy skies with temperatures in the 30s to low 40s.
- Tonight: Temperatures drop into the 20s, with light snow starting in the north and possible freezing drizzle in the south.
- Saturday: Snow and drizzle end by early afternoon. Highs will be in the 20s in northern Iowa and upper 30s in the south.
Will This Affect Travel?
Central & Southern Iowa – Freezing drizzle may lead to icy spots on bridges and untreated roads in the morning.
Northern Iowa – Light snow could make roads slippery, especially early Saturday.
Looking Ahead
This weekend’s system is relatively weak, but Iowa remains in an active weather pattern. A couple of systems could impact the state next week, bringing more chances for precipitation. Stay tuned for updates as we monitor potential midweek developments.
