Iowa Red Flag Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for portions of western and southern Iowa for Thursday. This is due to strong winds and low humidity that will fuel fires that become started.

Red Flag Warning

A red flag warning will remain in effect from noon to 7 pm Thursday for western, central and southeast Iowa. Winds gusting over 40-mph and relative humidity as low as 20% will rapidly spready any fires that develop. Outdoor burning is not recommended because of this. Crop debris will help promote rapid fire growth should fires develop in agricultural areas.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
