Iowa Winter Weather Advisory Across Northern Iowa

A winter weather advisory has been issued across northern Iowa from noon on Monday through 6 PM on Tuesday as a long duration of light wintry precipitation is set to impact the area. Further expansion of the advisory area will be likely as we get closer to the start of the event.

Winter Weather Timing

Beginning midday Monday light freezing drizzle is expected to develop over portions of northern Iowa. This freezing drizzle, and perhaps sleet, will gradually expand towards central Iowa Monday night into Tuesday. Meanwhile, portions of northern Iowa that begin as freezing drizzle will see a transition over to snow late Monday night with a few inches of snow accumulation possible on Tuesday.

Ice and Snowfall Accumulations

Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches will be expected with locally higher amounts. Ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch will also be possible.

Weather Impacts

Plan on slippery road conditions due to the ice and snow. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute on Tuesday, and the evening commutes on Monday and Tuesday. Slow down and use caution while traveling.
