Dangerous Cold To Continue And Intensify Across Iowa

Iowa wind chill warning and advisory map

Arctic air continues to move into Iowa this afternoon. With high pressure keeping the sky clear, temperatures will rapidly drop tonight through Sunday morning. Northerly winds of 10 to 15 MPH will result in dangerously cold wind chill values.

Not much relief is expected Sunday afternoon, leading to another night of dangerous wind chills, through Monday late morning. Only essential activities should be done outdoors and must be done with proper precautions. These are the coldest temperatures and wind chills thus far with this recent period of Arctic cold.

A wind chill warning will be in effect from Saturday evening through noon on Monday for much of Iowa. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin as little as 10 minutes.

Avoid outside activities if possible. When outside, make sure you wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
