Rare January Tornado Touches Down in Eastern Iowa

A complex of storms moved through eastern Iowa Monday afternoon. One of the storms went on to produce a tornado near Williamsburg, Iowa. The tornado developed south of Interstate 80 and then crossed over the interstate. The tornado continued northeast before dissipating before Interstate 380.

A semi truck was reported to be blown off Interstate 80 westbound. No additional damage has been reported as of 4PM Monday. Another brief tornado was reported east of Interstate 380, three miles north/northwest of Ely, or just southeast of the Cedar Rapids metro.

Williamsburg, Iowa is a city located in Iowa County, Iowa. It has a population of around 2,800 people and is known for its small-town charm and friendly community. The city is home to a number of historic sites, including the 1857 Old Capitol Building and the 1864 Cedar County Courthouse.
