Severe Weather Outlooks are issued by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) based out of Norman, Oklahoma. The day 1 outlook is updated 4 times a day, whereas the day 2 outlook is updated twice a day. The day 3 and the day 4 through 8 outlooks are only updated once a day.
Within the day 1 and day 2 outlooks, the SPC will issue probabilities for the different severe weather hazards, including tornadoes, hail, and damaging wind gusts.
Tornado Probabilities:
Tornado probabilities are issued for the day 1 and day 2 outlook. The probabilities range from 2% up to 60%. The SPC can even outlined a hatched significant area, which is issued when there is a 10% or greater probability of EF2 – EF5 tornadoes within 25 miles of a point.
Hail Probabilities:
Hail probabilities are issued for the day 1 and day 2 outlook. The probabilities range from 5% up to 60%. The SPC can even outlined a hatched significant area, which is issued when there is the probability of 2-inch hail or greater in size.
Wind Probabilities:
Damaging wind probabilities are issued for the day 1 and day 2 outlook. The probabilities range from 5% up to 60%. The SPC can even outlined a hatched significant area, which is issued when there is a 10% or greater probability of wind gusts 65 knots or greater within 25 miles of a point.
