Snow and Ice Expected Tuesday
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory ahead of Tuesday winter weather that will bring snow and light freezing precipitation to the northwest part of the state of Iowa. The winter weather advisory will be in effect from 6AM to 6PM Tuesday for these areas that will see the wintry precipitation.
Light snow will begin across northwest Iowa near daybreak on Tuesday. As the morning goes on, precipitation will continue to east/northeast. By mid-morning, light freezing precipitation will be possible across portions of the winter weather advisory area. Ice accumulations up to a light glazing will be possible. In addition to the ice, snowfall accumulations up to 3-inches will be possible.
Strong winds will also be an issue, as winds will be gusting up to 35-mph, which will create blowing snow and hazardous travel. Those who live in the winter weather advisory area, should plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.
As a reminder, slow down and use caution while traveling. Most vehicle crashes occur in lighter amounts of snow and ice. Plan on extra time to reach your destination safely Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
