Winter Storm to Impact Iowa Wednesday Evening into Thursday
Iowa residents are bracing for yet another winter storm. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the southeast half of the state, which will take effect from Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon.
According to the weather service, this storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to the area. Total snowfall accumulations are predicted to be between 4 to 10 inches, with the heaviest amounts expected in the southeastern portion of the state. This amount of snow could make for hazardous driving conditions, as well as making it difficult for residents to get around on foot.
Adding to the potential hazards, the winter storm will also bring with it strong winds. Wind gusts of up to 35-mph are expected, which could cause blowing snow and further reduce visibility. This combination of heavy snow and strong winds has the potential to make for extremely dangerous conditions, especially for those who must venture out in the storm.
Iowa residents are urged to take precautions ahead of the winter storm. This may include stocking up on supplies, such as food and water, in case of power outages or blocked roads. Residents should also consider minimizing travel during the storm and, if travel is necessary, ensure that they have an emergency kit in their vehicle.
