Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Iowa Ahead of First Snowfall of the Season
A winter weather advisory has been issued for portions of Iowa as light snow will continue overnight Monday into Tuesday. This light snow may cause some travel issues as slick road conditions will likely develop.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory across portions of central and eastern Iowa. Across central Iowa, the advisory will go into effect at 9PM this evening, and across eastern Iowa, it will go into effect at 4AM Tuesday.
Snow will move to the northeast into southwest Iowa after 9PM tonight. It will continue to spread to the northeast throughout the early morning hours Tuesday, and will continue through the afternoon, before tapering off by late Tuesday. Total snowfall amounts will be the highest in central portion of the state. This is where 2 to 5 inches will be possible, with localized higher amounts along the Interstate 35. Across eastern Iowa, snowfall amounts will range from 1 to 3 inches within this advisory area.
Snow has already been falling across northern Iowa Monday, which has created some light snowfall accumulations and slick road conditions. After the snow clears out of the state early Wednesday morning, much cooler air will arrive to end the week. This is when high temperatures will be in the teens to 20s, with wind chill temperatures in the single digits.
