frost advisory and freeze warning map for Iowa

A freeze warning and frost advisory have been issued for northwest Iowa. Clear skies overnight Friday into Saturday will allow temperatures to quickly fall into the 30s across the state of Iowa. The coldest temperatures will be across northwest Iowa. This is where temperatures will fall into the low to middle 30s.

Areas of frost will develop late tonight through Saturday morning across west-central to northwest Iowa. Due to this threat of frost, the National Weather Service has issued frost advisories. A freeze warning will be in effect for Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, and O’Brien counties due to sub-freezing temperatures.

Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. Wrap and drain outdoor water pipes to prevent freezing and possible bursting. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
