Memorial Day Severe Weather Outlook
Severe weather outlook for Sunday

If you have any outdoor plans this Memorial Day, you are going to want to keep a close eye on the weather. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued enhanced to moderate severe weather outlooks for portions of the Midwest.

Monday (Memorial Day): Storms will develop along the cold front across western Iowa by late afternoon into the early evening hours of Monday. This line of storms will then track off to the east. This line will have the possibility of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and even a few tornadoes. This is why there is an enhanced risk of severe weather along and west of Interstate 35 in western Iowa.

Tornado Probabilities across Iowa

Further to the north into Minnesota, storms will develop near the triple point across west-central Minnesota by mid-afternoon. These storms will have the possibility of producing strong, long-lived tornadoes (EF-2 or greater in intensity), which is why the SPC has issued a moderate risk of severe weather for this area.
