Saturday Severe Weather Outlook

Saturday Severe Weather Outlook for Saturday, September 17th, 2022

Showers and even a few thunderstorms are expected overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Based on the latest model guidance, storms should dissipate and clear out by late morning. This will allow the atmosphere to become unstable by Saturday afternoon. Storms are then expected to redevelop (mainly after 5PM) along a line from Mason City south through southwest Iowa.

Storms that do become severe will pose the risk of large hail and damaging wind gusts. While the tornado threat will be low, there is still the risk for an isolated threat. This threat will need to be monitored Saturday evening. Storms will continue to move to the east overnight Saturday into eastern Iowa and will then clear out of the state by Sunday morning.
